NEI: Green 101, Green 201 and MSCA's Green Awareness
Geared toward principals, senior management, middle management, project managers, and estimators, these workshops come to you, and may be scheduled by an individual company or by an MCA local association.
Green 101 is four-hour industry-specific course answers basic questions and addresses participants' most urgent concerns about green building. It was designed for those contractor and service professionals wanting to learn the fundamentals of the subject, such as: terms, definitions, and technologies involved in green and sustainable construction.
The course, part of the MCAA National Education Initiative, is taught by Tim Wentz, assistant professor at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, a registered professional engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, a licensed heating contractor, and a licensed master plumber with over 20 years of industry experience as a mechanical contractor.
Green 201 is a continuation of the fundamentals course, also taught by Tim Wentz, that explores marketing and branding opportunities for firms interested in becoming more involved in this growing segment of the industry.
MSCA offers Green Awareness Training through the NEI. The Green Awareness Training and Certification program has been developed to help ensure that company employees -- especially service employees -- understand this new and emerging trend and all the new terminology, equipment, technologies and concepts associated with “green.” Special emphasis is also focused on the specification, purchase and application of energy efficient products. Upon successful completion of this program and assessment, participants will receive certification in “green mechanical awareness." -- a prerequisite for the Green Star program.

MCAA's Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI) is a unique two-week educational program for the industry's senior executives. Held at Babson College, famous internationally for the quality of their business education, the program has graduated over 280 executives since its inception, and we're not alone in thinking this program is the premier educational opportunity in construction. The core case study includes a green component and now incorporates the latest thinking in building information modeling. If you've been thinking of investing in your leadership education, why not plan ahead for 2011?
