Resources for MSCA Contractors

Model Green Preventative Maintenance Plan

When developing proposals for preventative maintenance services, there are numerous supplementary items, in addition to routine maintenance tasks, that can, and should, be included to ensure peak operating efficiency and compliance with LEED O & M requirements. MSCA has developed a model green preventative maintenance plan of special interest to service contractors. Download the pdf file here, or contact Barbara Dolim for more information.

Green Awareness Training

The Green Awareness Training and Certification program has been developed to help ensure ALL your company employees understand the new terminology, equipment, technologies and concepts associated with "green." The program is now available to all MSCA contractors who wish to train their employees in-house. For more information, visit MSCA's website and enter your login and password to view the green awareness website.

MSCA's Green Star Program

MSCA now has a number of exceptional contractors that have met the requirements of the GreenStar program. MSCA GreenStar is a designation given to MSCA STAR companies who have shown an exceptional commitment to sustainable mechanical service and are recognized as leaders in the green movement within the HVAC industry. Prior to becoming a designated GreenStar, MSCA STAR contractors must demonstrate a commitment to sustainability by meeting specific requirements.

To become GreenStar designated, a contractor must:

  • Be an MSCA STAR Qualified Contractor
  • Employ at least one LEED Accredited Professional
  • Be a member of the USGBC — either with a local chapter or the national organization
  • Verify that at least twenty-five percent of employees have participated in a green training or education program
  • Demonstrate that their company promotes environmental responsibility by offering specific sustainable services and recommending ‘green’ procedures and equipment
  • Establish a commitment to ‘Green’ by attaining LEED certification of any type for their company headquarters, or by developing an internal ‘green policy’ for their building
  • Participate as part of a project team with a LEED EB or LEED NC registered project within the past three years

Business Resources

Welcome to the Business Resources section of MCAAGreen.org. Our goal is to direct you to the information, tools and resources that can help mechanical, plumbing and service contractors as they work every day. If you don't see the tools you need, be sure to let us know -- we might be able to help.

Contractor's Guide to LEED

Don't miss the extensive MCAA Contractor's Guide to LEED. These downloadable PDF files are explanations of the LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation v2.2 prerequisites and credits. We have noted items especially relevant to the work of MCAA members. Also on this page are links to an analysis of changes being made in LEED 3.0, and MSCA's analysis of the changes in the new LEED Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance Rating System.

Plumbing Calculator

Water efficiency is a growing market, and a key is being able to quantify the opportunities for savings to your clients. Be sure to take a look at the PCA's Water Use and Plumbing Payback Calculator. This downloadable tool can be used to help you in the calculations needed to analyze retrofit options, assess costs and estimate payback.

Training and LEED Accreditation for Your Professionals

First, be sure to take a look at our LEED AP Overview. The LEED Accredited Professional program has changed significantly, and continues to evolve. We can help guide you through these changes, and help you decide what professional credential makes sense for you and your company.

Under the current accreditation program, many contractors may decide that the Green Associate credential is what they need to demonstrate their understanding of the LEED rating system and their ability to play a constructive role on the green building team. MCAA has developed a unique training system to help you gain this credential. Here's more information on this opportunity.
